28-05-2025

At the Asian Development Bank (ADB) 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 & 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 in Manilla (Philippines), today’s session on laundry as a system brought powerful voices and insights to the forefront.

We opened with a video capturing the realities and resilience of women doing laundry, and the systemic challenges they face.

ADB then framed the session, highlighting why laundry is a key issue in their broader development agenda.

From there, Salma Enan shared findings from the 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗧-𝗨𝘀 study, showing how laundry connects to gender, water, health, livelihoods, and markets. Making laundry an entry point into broader development systems. Real change needs solutions beyond the “𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘺 𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘳”, from tools and detergents to water and service models.
