Agricultural Transition Through Productive Biodiversity project in India

20-10-2024

MetaMeta Team India has taken a key step in advancing the Agricultural Transition through Productive Biodiversity and Nature-Based Solutions project with a successful field visit across 9 villages in Jharkhand. This initiative provides a strategic roadmap to transform agricultural practices in both Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, enhancing biodiversity while ensuring food security.

Our recent visit focused on key areas like:
  • Hedges: Farmers are starting to see the value of planting trees and shrubs along bunds, which boost agricultural resilience and biodiversity. This practice is gaining traction as a sustainable farming solution.
  • Ecologically Based Rodent Mangement (EBRM): With rats posing a serious threat to crops, the community is eager to adopt EBRM—an area that no organization in India has tackled before, opening new avenues for innovation.
  • Water and Pest Mangement: Field research revealed that reducing water in the field during critical stages of crop growth helps control pests like the Brown Plant Hopper, offering a practical solution for farmers.
This project, informed by past research, is designed to address both the opportunities and challenges of implementing hedges, EBRM, and other Nature-Based Solutions. Our next stop is Madhya Pradesh to further explore these transformative strategies.
