The on-going war in Ukraine not only affects millions of people, but also creates immense damage on the water infrastructures and crop production systems.

MetaMeta contributed to one of the first assessments of damages, losses, and needs for the irrigation and drainage infrastructure and for water resources management systems as part of an assignment for the World Bank. The team concluded that there has been substantial damage to pump stations, hydraulic structures and a number of reservoirs apart from the buildings of the departments. With irrigation systems often in the active war zone, there is a need to modernise the drainage systems which are in safe or de-occupied areas to balance the loss of crop production.
